Your perfect prom hairstyle

by Ashley Laurier

Your prom night is hugely important, and it is vital to make the right impression in front of your peers. You have more than likely picked out a dress a long time ago, but how much attention have you paid to your hairstyle? The right hairstyle can make your outfit look even better, but at the same time, a poor choice of hairstyle can ruin what would otherwise be a beautiful one. Your prom hairstyle should tie in with and complement your dress and shoes. Whatever the length and thickness of your hair, and no matter what outfit you have chosen, there will be a prom hairstyle that will really provide the finishing touches to the overall package.

Prom hairstyles for short hair

If you have short hair, you have fewer options available to you for prom hairstyles, but you can still create a stunning hairstyle that is the perfect mix of formal and cute. This is just right for prom night. In addition, accessories can complete the glamorous look.

There are three main prom hairstyles for girls with short hair:

The first is the textured short cut, which is similar to a traditional bob, but does differ slightly, as the hair around your face does not frame it in the same way.  The front section of your hair sweeps across your forehead, providing a perfect prom hairstyle.

The second style is a short hairstyle with a fringe. This is a simple hairstyle, but also a very glamorous one. Actress Sienna Miller used to wear her hair in this style. Although your hair is short, it is also layered, and the fringe frames your face, thus emphasizing your facial features. The fringe also makes it easier to pull off the hairstyle, as it can be hard to do so. This is a great look for prom night that will also be fairly unique, as not every girl will have the confidence to pull it off.

The third style is a pixie cut, as worn by actress Natalie Portman. It also known as the boy cut, and is an especially hard style to wear. If you have delicate facial feature, it should suit you, and you can be confident that not many other girls will dare to try this hairstyle on prom night.

Prom hairstyles for medium length hair

Girls who have medium length hair have more choice when it comes to prom hairstyles:

A choppy mid–length cut is a good prom hairstyle for medium length hair. Although the ends of your hair are messy, the overall look is still chic. The fringe is angled, which creates an edgy look, and can cover a wide or high forehead. It also evens out your facial features.

Curly hair can look glamorous on medium length hair. It has an off–centre parting, and the front section of your hair sweeps across your forehead, which provides a chic look. Half of your hair can be tucked behind your ear to provide a contrast, and accessories that match your outfit can be added to provide an extra touch of glamour.

A wavy hairstyle can also look chic, as it is simple, but still elegant. This hairstyle combines natural waviness with soft layers, and can look very feminine. It is easy to maintain, which makes it even more perfect for prom night.

Prom hairstyles for long hair

A simple chic hairstyle works well on long hair. You can pleat the front section of your hair and use a hair band to separate it from the back section. A clear colored hair band is best for this. The rest of your hair is then loosely curled to allow it to flow down your back. It is an ideal hairstyle if you are planning to wear a strapless prom dress. It is a simple hairstyle to create, but the overall look that it produces is stunning.

Boho waves are easy to create, and look great too. Although they may seem casual, they are still great for formal events.

Chignons and other “up–dos” are very popular at proms as they are so elegant. However, they are best avoided if you want to have an eye–catching prom hairstyle, as it is likely that many other girls will choose this hairstyle.

A chic hairstyle with curls is not hard to pull off, and can look spectacular. The curls can be produced using rollers or tongs, and you can use hair gel to create the swept fringe that accompanies the look.

There are many different hairstyles that you can choose for your prom night, and in the end, it will come down to which style you would prefer to wear, as well as the one that best suits your face and outfit. Have some fun experimenting with different prom hairstyles before the night, so that you can choose the one that works the best for you.
